As a science teacher passionate about teaching science as a practice, not just a collection of facts, Lab in Every Lesson was created to help teachers and parents provide students with rich learning experiences that empower them with skills they can use in everyday life—skills to think critically, make informed decisions, and solve real-world problems. But even the most strategic and thoughtfully designed lessons won’t get the job done alone! Science lessons are like the trunk of a tree — the means through which we plan and differentiate instruction to serve every student. Yet, that trunk is also connected to a system of deep, entangled roots that allow it to stand tall and strong. On this podcast, ”Deep Roots=> Flowers + Fruit”, we’ll plant seeds of reflection and strengthen our shared roots of SERVICE, STUDENTS, and SCIENCE. Together, we’ll grow the fruit of lasting learning.

Continual improvement only comes from regular reflection.
When science teachers lecture, the only aspects of their instruction upon which they can reflect include those dictated by the content ... what they say or how they say it.
In a student-centered science classroom, teacher reflection can and should happen at all four stages in the teaching and learning process -- from defining a clear purpose, to developing that amazing interactive science lesson plan, through delivery of that lesson plan and analysis of the student outcome artifacts that are produced.
For more fundamentals of reflection and suggestions for how to improve or increase the frequency of your science teacher reflection practice, listen in!
